Buddy Check9 has been a part of 9NEWS
for more than 10 years.
We are proud of our commitment to the community.

The idea behind the Buddy Check9 program is quite simple. On the 9th of every month, we ask women to do a monthly breast self-exam and then call their “buddy” to remind her to do the same. Their buddy can be a family member, colleague or friend. Hundreds of women have found lumps; the majority of them are not malignant. Our hope is that cancer is discovered in its early stages, when it is most treatable.

Pick Up Your Buddy Check Calendar Today

This year's calendar features twelve amazing women who've survived breast cancer and are now sharing their stories.

You can pick up your copy at your local Safeway store or by submitting a request through the form on this website.

This year's calendar was printed with a mistake. The configurations of November 2008 and December 2008 were incorrect. Next year's calendars, which will come out in October 2008, will include these months corrected, as well as the entire 2009 calendar. Until then, you are welcome to print off the corrected version of these calendars to place with your current Buddy Check Calendar.

  • American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines

Yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health.

Clinical breast exams (CBE) should be part of a periodic health exam, about every three years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over.
Women should report any breast change promptly to their health care providers. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.

Women at increased risk (e.g., family history, genetic tendency, past breast cancer ) should talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of starting mammography screening earlier, having additional tests (e.g., breast ultrasound or MRI), or having more frequent exams.
